Toppling Targets, Together!

Nelson & District Credit Union & Osprey Community Foundation’s Matching Campaign donations surpass expectations. Together, our community raised $86K!

2025 was certainly a milestone year for a multitude of reasons! Combining significant anniversaries with ambitious fundraising, the Nelson & District Credit Union, together with Osprey Community Foundation exceeded their target to raise $75K to invest in future community initiatives.

Individual community members pledged their support over the course of four months, September through December, to the amount of $86,100. Together with the matching $75K, amounting to $161,100 to be invested into the Osprey Community Fund. Income generated on the Osprey Community Fund is granted annually to the hardworking community services organizations in Nelson and RDCK Areas E and F.

“We couldn’t have done it were it not for the remarkable generosity of this community and our partnership with the NDCU!” exclaims Tina Choi, Executive Director with the Foundation.

The collaboration between the NDCU and Osprey is a meaningful and longstanding relationship, one rooted in strengthening both organizations’ commitment to long-term community investment.

“The success of this matching campaign highlights our confidence in Osprey and our commitment to local and lasting impact.” comments Tom Atkins, Senior Manager – Member Experience, Nelson & District Credit Union. “We trust in Osprey’s endowment model to turn charitable giving into long-term investments, allowing our community’s funds to grow responsibly and provide enduring benefits year after year.”

The NDCU was the first organization to establish a fund with Osprey in 2001, and the Nelson and District Credit Union Fund generates income to support Osprey’s annual Community Grants program. Endowed contributions to the Credit Union’s Fund have grown to over $135K, and generated income of $84k has flowed back into the community in the form of grants since it was established.

Every year, Osprey Community Foundation invites local organizations to apply for funding through its Community Grants program, which usually opens in March and runs through April. In previous years, Osprey was only able to provide grants to registered charities.

“This year we are excited to implement some new opportunities to include registered non profit organizations, so we are encouraging groups to watch for those eligibility announcements on our website.” says Choi.

"I wanted to do something local, such as helping seniors in our hospital here, and the fund I chose was a good fit with what I wanted to do. The donation is also a memorial to my wife; it fulfilled her wishes too."
