Let Me Tell You A Story

There once was a generous Nelson philanthropist who wanted to leave a lasting legacy in her community. She established the Sheba Fund with Osprey Community Foundation. When she passed away the Sheba Fund was worth $3.4 million dollars.
The $3.4 million was invested, and just the annual income was granted out to the charitable programs that meant so much to her. In the past 23 years the Sheba Fund has granted out $3 million to support Animal Welfare, Acute Health Care and Seniors programs in our community. And the best part? That $3.4 million bequest is still here, generating income for future programs and projects to come.

The Seniors Outreach programs at the Nelson Public Library is one of the programs supported by the Sheba Fund. The program provides expanded library services for seniors. Nelson Public Library staff and volunteers deliver monthly library collection and services to Jubilee Manor, Mountain Lake and Lakeview Village. By providing onsite library services we can ensure that the library collection is accessible to local seniors even if they can’t make it to the library in person.

Now that’s a happy ending!

"I wanted to do something local, such as helping seniors in our hospital here, and the fund I chose was a good fit with what I wanted to do. The donation is also a memorial to my wife; it fulfilled her wishes too."
