Osprey Community Foundation Awards $220,000 in Grants for 2026

Osprey Community Foundation is pleased to announce the allocation of $220,000 in grants for 2026, supporting a diverse range of community projects and initiatives.

The grants were awarded through Osprey’s annual grant application process, which invites local charitable organizations and community groups to apply for funding that strengthens the social, cultural, environmental, and socio-economic well-being of our communities.

This year’s grant cycle saw a 50% increase in applications, driven in part by a significant change to the granting eligibility criteria. For the first year, registered non-profit organizations were able to apply without requiring a sponsorship arrangement with a Qualified Donee.

While this change broadens access to funding opportunities and enables more community organizations to seek support for important local initiatives, the increase in the amount of funding requested also doubled. Osprey seeks to support as many worthy initiatives as possible each year, however it receives far more requests than they have funds and are unable to support every project.

The funded projects were selected by Osprey’s Grants Committee and Board of Directors following a thorough review process. Successful applications demonstrated strong community impact, organizational capacity, and alignment with Osprey’s charitable purposes.

Funding for Osprey grants comes from investment returns generated by several endowed funds held by the Foundation, including the Community Fund, Nelson & District Credit Union Fund, Nelson Home Hardware Fund, a number of Donor-Advised Funds, and other non-designated and field-of-interest funds established by generous donors.

“Thanks to the ongoing growth of our endowment and the generosity of our donors, especially those supporting our unrestricted Community Funds, we are also able to increase the amount we grant out each year.” said Executive Director Tina Choi “It’s rewarding to see these investments making a tangible difference in our community.”

Osprey invites individuals to contribute to the Community Fund to help generate earnings for broad community granting with flexibility to meet ever-changing community needs.
