Serving Community

Almost twenty years ago Our Daily Bread (ODB) was established to address our community’s need for a barrier free daily hot lunch program. One of the first grants it received was from Osprey Community Foundation to purchase a new oven. Since then ODB has served over 250,000 hungry community members in need. In fact, the oven is still used daily. “It has been such a blessing, says ODB Administrator, Anne-Marie Haynes, “as a Hot Lunch program, having the oven is a crucial piece in serving nutritious meals made with love.”

That $1,000 grant almost twenty years ago represented a portion of the income earned on donations Osprey had received. And just like the oven that continues to provide daily hot meals, Osprey donations also continue to earn income as part of our community’s endowment.  Donations are added to a growing, income-generating endowment that is never spent. This pooling and investing of donations provides a perpetual source of funding to a wide range of hardworking charitable organizations and programs in our community.

Osprey was established in 2000 and in the past twenty years it has distributed over two and a half million dollars to community charities, scholarships and worthy causes. From playgrounds to emergency dental care to arts productions to skateboard parks to hospital equipment – Osprey grants have enriched and sustained the Nelson area.
